Social Security

As a temporary worker in Belgium, you enjoy an extensive social security system and the many social and financial benefits that come with it. The specific benefits depend on your personal situation.

Health insurance and leave benefits

In Belgium, everyone is required to be covered by health insurance. Some companies also offer their permanent employees additional hospitalization insurance, which covers additional medical expenses.

Health Insurance

You will be reimbursed for part of your medical expenses, such as for a visit to the doctor or dentist.

Leave benefits

If you are temporarily unable to work due to illness or an accident, you will receive benefits.

Hospitalization insurance

Hospitalization insurance covers additional expenses, such as hospitalization or consultation with a specialist.

Child Benefit

In Belgium, the child benefit system is called the Growth Package. This is a package of financial allowances for each child. It consists of a one-time starting allowance, monthly payments and an annual school bonus.

As an international temporary worker working in Belgium, you are entitled to child benefit for each child.

One-time and monthly payments

You will receive a one-time starting premium after the birth or adoption of each child, followed by fixed monthly payments.

School Bonus

In August, you will receive an additional amount to help with your children’s school expenses.

Additional surcharges

Depending on your personal situation, you may be entitled to additional allowances, such as healthcare or school allowances.

Seniority and retirement

Even as a temporary worker, you accrue seniority for all your work periods. These count toward your pension accrual. The amount of your pension depends on the number of days you worked and your salary during your career.

Seniority

Your seniority is calculated based on the total time you worked through a temp agency, not on the number of years in one company.

Pension contribution

Temporary employees are entitled to pension contributions. These contributions are calculated automatically and are part of your pay package.

Retirement age and amount

At www.mypension.be you can easily find out when you can retire and how much your monthly retirement benefit will be.
