A site manager is responsible for the daily supervision and operational coordination of a construction site. The site manager ensures that works are carried out correctly, safely and according to schedule.

Unlike the project manager, who manages the overall project including budget and contracts, the site manager is mainly present on-site and responsible for practical execution.

The site manager acts as the link between the construction team on site and company management.

What education do you need to become a site manager?

To become a site manager, a technical education is usually required. Common qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electromechanics
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Sciences
  • Graduate degree in Construction
  • Technical secondary education with relevant experience

The position of site manager in Belgium is not subject to a minimum wage scale under Joint Committee 124. Salaries are determined by the employer. In practice, salaries typically range between approximately €3,000 and €4,500 gross per month depending on experience.
