Meet Anas, Installer of solar screens
Find out how Anas finally found the long-awaited job in his field after years of temporary assignments.
Anas moved to Belgium from his native Morocco in 2010. It soon became clear that finding a job in his field, metal constructions, would not be an easy task. After various temporary assignments, Anas ended up at IMPACT together with his friend Jaafar. They did a lot of interim jobs together and eventually we found Anas the long-awaited job in his specialization. After an interim period, he signed a permanent contract. Four years later, Anas is still working there.
The 31-year-old Anas did his training as a Polyvalent worker in metal structures in Morocco. However, except for a few internships, he could not yet practice his profession there professionally. Consequently, when he moved to Belgium in 2010, he had hardly any experience. Unfortunately, this lack of experience often became the decisive argument with the companies to which Anas tried his luck. After several negative responses, he decided to start working through interim jobs.
Getting started with a friend
Anas did a lot of jobs, but only joined IMPACT in 2015. The start of an extraordinary story: “Together with my good friend Jaafar, we visited the Zaventem office. We explained our situation and looked at the options. IMPACT immediately helped us embellish our resume to better highlight our qualities, education and experience. Something we might have underestimated the importance of.”
And that immediately provided a fun experience. “It was pretty funny. We left the office and at that moment the IMPACT office received a call for a position as a warehouse worker. The IMPACT employee ran after us in the hallway and suggested the position, but unfortunately it was only for one person. Immediately, she called back to the company and arranged for the two of us to start as warehouse workers. So we walked out with a temporary contract and work boots.”
Finally the desired job
After their first assignment came to an end, Anas took on many more temporary assignments both together with Jaafar and individually. “The challenges we took on through IMPACT, we found mainly at Brucargo, because in Zaventem, of course, the airport is never far away. Ultimately, my goal remained to work in my specialization, but in the meantime I definitely didn’t want to waste my time. That way I learned a lot of other things and, of course, I also had the necessary financial security.”
Anas’ patience paid off! “I was able to start at Verano: first as a warehouse worker and then as a sunscreen installer. I learned the latter on the job, because at that time sun screens were not yet being used in Morocco. I found a job in my desired field and am learning more every day. After an interim period as a temp, I got a permanent contract and have been working at Verano for four years now.”
Always the same contact person
Anas is not only happy thanks to the job he finally found, but also about the cooperation with IMPACT. “IMPACT knows the right companies and the right contacts. They can give you the sometimes necessary extra push as a candidate and reinforce the things on your resume. That ensures greater credibility and a stronger candidacy with your potential employer anyway, who will also look at your profile and dossier in detail more quickly.”
Personal follow-up is also a major plus for Anas. “From my first visit to the Zaventem office, I was helped by the same IMPACT employee. It has remained that way at every moment, with every assignment and every time I came knocking on the door again. That way you create a bond, because you know who you are, what you can do and what you have already achieved. As a candidate, you don’t have to tell your story over and over again. I am grateful to IMPACT for their years of help and definitely recommend other specialists and job seekers to contact them.”
