Meet Beniamino, Warehouse Worker
Find out how Beniamino traded in his permanent job for a long-term challenge as a temp.
He had been working in one of Katoen Natie’s warehouses for 11 years, yet Beniamino (40) traded in his regular job for a challenge as a temp. His main motivations? A job closer to home, no afternoon shift and no loss of pay. Beniamino applied via IMPACT for a job as a warehouse worker at Radiant Color and has been working for the Limburg-based world player in color pigments since 2021.
Eight years in the warehouse of logistics service provider H.Essers and 11 years in that of Katoen Natie: Beniamino is a loyal worker who opts for long-term collaborations. At Katoen Natie, he became a team leader and for the last six years has managed a group of about fifteen people, responsible for, among other things, loading and unloading goods, filling and sorting big bags … But at the age of forty, Beniamino started thinking about the further course of his professional career.
Close to home, no afternoon shift or lost wages
The distance between his home and workplace was one of the crucial factors in Beniamino’s search. “In my last job, I still lost two extra hours every day outside working hours due to the route and traffic, among other things. That started to weigh on me after 11 years. As an Italian, I am a real family man and I like to spend enough time with my partner, children and friends after work hours. So a job closer to home was an absolute must.”
On top of that, Beniamino often worked morning or afternoon shifts. “I wasn’t a big fan of those shifts. In the search for a new job, I looked with bigger eyes at a position with ‘regular’ daytime hours.” Finally, the likeable Limburger was looking for a challenge where he wouldn’t have to sacrifice in terms of salary. “I had already built a pretty steady career with some seniority by now anyway, so I preferred not to take a step back in terms of salary.”
Warehouse worker at Radiant Color
And so Beniamino started looking online for a job where he could tick off those requirements. Through a vacancy as a warehouse worker at Radiant Color, he ended up at IMPACT. “I had no experience with temp agencies before, but everything went very smoothly despite the awkward corona times. We had a telephone introduction, then I was invited to an IMPACT office and was able to go for an interview at Radiant Color, barely ten kilometers from where I live. I managed to convince them and started as a temp in January 2021.”
In his new job, Beniamino takes on a wide range of duties. “I am in charge of everything that comes into the warehouse: all the raw materials and dyes, working materials … I keep monthly stock and enter the products via Microsoft Navision. Labels are then made from these, which are stuck on the goods and then stored. In addition, I order and distribute the goods and make sure that the colleagues can work in clean clothes and that the dirty or worn clothes are washed or replaced in time. It’s a varied job with no end in sight.”
Not one second of regret
And Beniamino really likes that job. “I am very happy with my new job and really enjoy doing it. I also see many similarities with my previous job: I have the same responsibilities, have to know the company inside out, be aware of everything that comes in and out … The job title may be different, but the feeling is the same. And the phone that rings daily just as often with certain questions, but I like that (laughs).”
Still, not everyone around him found the transition from a permanent job to an interim job an obvious move. “They looked at me strangely at times, but it didn’t make me hesitate. The job met all three of my expectations and, on top of that, I am now learning a lot of new things. So I haven’t regretted my choice yet and I intend to throw myself fully into it here as well and make it a long-term partnership. With the option for a permanent contract, that is definitely in the cards.”
Clear and decisive
Not only does Beniamino like the new job, he is also nothing but satisfied with his cooperation with IMPACT. “From the first contact, I was immediately put at ease and helped in a friendly, family manner. If I had a particular question about the job or the company, they immediately went after it and gave me the right information right away. I love that: acting quickly and not being left hanging. IMPACT tells things like they are.”
The latter is important to Beniamino. “Interim work was a new thing for me. I am glad that IMPACT is ready to help with a smile: in the first few weeks I called several times with certain questions around, for example, the payment of my salary. One of the pleasant advantages of interim work, by the way: you see your salary in your account every week and are not stuck with a long notice period when you are ready for something new. But as far as I’m concerned, I definitely left for a great time at Radiant Color: thank you, IMPACT!”
